BAYSIDE—A Bayside man was robbed in front of his house last Friday along 57th Road near Cloverdale Boulevard after returning home from shopping, NYPD said.
Community Affairs Officer Luigi Galano of the 111th Precinct told the Bayside Hills Civic Association meeting the man may have been targeted by two black males who pulled a gun on him and took a bag containing a new iPhone7. One of the two suspects pistol-whipped the victim, which caused a round to discharge from the firearm. The bullet went through the driver’s side of the victim’s windshield, but nobody was wounded by the slug.
The man, however, required medical attention for damage to the left eye, where he was hit with the back of the gun, Galano said.
“I think he was actually targeted, at this point, where he was shopping for an electronic device–an iPhone,” Galano said. “He purchased the phone at one of the local stores on Harding. He went back home and that’s when he was actually robbed, right in front of his house.”
Police were checking surveillance footage for leads, but so far there have been no arrests and the investigation was ongoing.
The iPhone taken from the victim was valued at around $700, police said.
