An Elmhurst mother has been charged with the murder of her one-year-old daughter, police said.
Officers responded to a call of an aided child and arrived at 87-19 Elmhurst Ave. Tuesday evening when they discovered one-year old Sangye Lhakyi lying unconscious and unresponsive on a bed in the home, police said. Sangye was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Her mother, Shangbo Xiangshenhjie, 33, was arrested in the home, police said.
Xiangshenhjie later confessed to detectives she killed the baby, police said.
The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. Investigations were still ongoing.
