On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Stew Leonard Jr., president and chief executive officer of Stew Leonard’s, will be among the Star Network’s “Kings of Long Island.” This event honors top Long Island businessmen and leaders for their outstanding leadership and their contributions to the community.

Stew Leonard’s, located in Airport Plaza in Farmingdale, is a unique, family-owned and operated farm-fresh food store. Winners of the 2017 “Bethpage Best of Long Island” contest for “Best Supermarket” and “Best Garden Store,” Stew Leonard’s originally opened as a small dairy store in 1969 selling only seven items. The company now has five locations in Connecticut and New York, welcomes more than 20 million visitors to their stores every year, and will open a sixth food store in East Meadow in summer 2017.

Leonard lives by the mantra, “Rule 1: The Customer Is Always Right! Rule 2: If The Customer Is Ever Wrong, Reread Rule 1.”

These are chiseled into a granite rock at the entrance to each of the stores.

In addition, Leonard, his wife Kim, and their four daughters have been nationally recognized for their support of children’s water safety through their own foundation. They have authored two children’s books that have sold over 100,000 copies and, since 1990, have raised over $3 million to fund swim lessons and lifeguard training.

The Star Network’s “Kings of Long Island” will be held on Thursday, April 6, from 6 to 9 pm at Leonard’s Palazzo, 555 Northern Blvd., Great Neck.
