Police need the public’s help in finding the man who beat up and then attempted to sexually assault a 35-year-old woman on a Jackson Heights street early on Sunday morning, April 16.
Law enforcement sources said the incident took place at 4:40 a.m. in the vicinity of 74th Street and 37th Avenue, where the perpetrator — described as a Hispanic male between 30 and 35 years of age, standing 5 foot 5 inches tall with a medium build — approached the victim from behind.
According to authorities, the suspect punched the woman numerous times in the back of her head, causing her to fall to the ground. He then dragged her over to a nearby fence, where he attempted to sexually assault the woman.
Police said the victim managed to fight off her attacker, then ran away toward 37th Avenue, where she sought help from a passing driver. The suspect was last observed heading northbound on 74th Street with the victim’s purse.
Officers from the 115th Precinct responded to the incident. The woman was treated at Elmhurst Hospital for bruises and abrasions to her head and torso.
The NYPD released late on Sunday night video of the suspect near the crime scene. He was last observed wearing a white jacket, a green shirt, light colored pants and black shoes.
