A unique, three-day video performance festival featuring more than 20 different performances and installations by some of the most exciting experimental sound and video artists across New York is coming to Ridgewood this June.
The festival, called Confetti Machine, will take over Outpost Artists Resources from Friday, June 2, through Sunday, June 4. Curated by Eric Barry Drasin, Confetti Machine will immerse the audience in a multisensory experience through a combination of sound, music and video.
The first night of Confetti Machine will be Oceanic Motion, where artists will display their collaborations between immersive projection artists and vocal choirs, scores for networked computers and string ensembles, audiovisual group therapy sessions, and more.
Oceanic Motion will feature the following artists: Bulgarian Voices Trio and Ursula Scherrer, Diamond Terrifier (solo) with projections by Trouble, Joseph Branciforte’s Generative String Ensemble, and Diggers – Group Process III.
Saturday night will play host to Extended Gesture, where a series of single channel audiovisual performances investigating contemporary practices in New Cinema and Realtime Video Performance that combines the best parts of technical systems, performance, score and improvisation.
“Realtime Media speaks to the instantaneous transformation of perception, and our power to make the hidden suddenly visible,” Drasin said. “Using custom tools, we manipulate the signals, data and contextual meanings that define the networks of our society, sculpting a new method to hear and see. These exercises sharpen our critical faculties, illuminating the pervasive spectacle that subjugates our narrative to the benefit of those in power.”
Extended Gesture’s artists will be Anastasia Clarke, Diggers, BKLN!Zulu, David Linton, Naval Cassidy, Jonas Bers, Tara and David Gladden, Ashcan Orchestra, Mark Fingerhut, Jen Kutler, Rob Ramirez, Joshua Goldberg/Matthew Gantt, Dylan A. Marcheschi and Long Distance Poison.
Rounding out the three-day festival will be Together Together — an improvised electronics round robin, which serves as a platform for tool builders, artists and engineers to experiment in a performance-based environment. Artists will set up in a circle and play short, interlocking sets in a clockwise fashion.
Together Together will feature Pete Shapiro + David First, Camilla Padgitt Coles, Matt Romein, Benton C Bainbridge and Fan Letters.
Tickets for Confetti Machine are $15 for each night of the festival, or $35 for a three-day pass, and can be purchased here. Outpost Artists Resources is located at 1665 Norman St. For more information about Outpost Artists Resources or Confetti Machine, visit their Facebook page.
