Detectives have released video footage of a person of interest who’s wanted in connection with the murder of a Bayside man in front of a Flushing grocery store last month.
The unidentified man is sought as part of the ongoing investigation into the deadly shooting on May 31 of Fernando Gonzalez-Chavez, 39, of 47th Avenue. Police sources said the homicide may possibly be gang related.
Officers from the 109th Precinct found the mortally wounded Gonzalez-Chavez in front of a bodega at the corner of 162nd Street and Station Road at 12:02 a.m. on May 31. They had been called to the scene to investigate a report of shots fired.
Moments before they arrived, sources familiar with the investigation said, an unidentified male walked up to Gonzalez-Chavez at the location and opened fire. The gunman then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Police initially reported that the victim had been shot in the face, but further investigation revealed that he actually had been shot in the torso.
Responding EMS units examined the unconscious Gonzalez-Chavez and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police describe the person of interest as a man who was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue hooded sweatshirt with the words “American Eagle” on the front.
