Two people were rescued and rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center in critical condition following a construction accident in Astoria Tuesday afternoon, according to the FDNY.

Emergency responders worked to free a third person who was still being evaluated by EMS at the scene, according to an FDNY spokeswoman.

The incident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. at a construction site at 31-25 28th Road and was initially reported as a crane collapse by fire officials who updated the information saying a crane’s load was dropped trapping the workers in a basement, according to the FDNY.
