Some of the borough’s standout and up-and-coming artists will display their work in Bayside this month.
The Bayside Historical Society (BHS) will present its 17th Annual Winter Art Show at the Castle at Fort Totten from Jan. 14 to 28. The exhibit will feature pieces from the borough’s artists, primarily residing in northeast Queens, in mediums including drawing, painting and photography.
An opening reception will take place on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. and feature an awards ceremony, gallery talk and refreshments. Judges will be Neill Slaughter, an artist and professor at Long Island University, and Robert Mehling, an artist, art historian and educator.
The art exhibit will feature over 40 artists from Queens, according to Laura James, the executive director of the Bayside Historical Society. It will also feature, for the first time, work from student artists at Bayside High School and Benjamin Cardozo High School, which will be showcased in a “student section.”
Viewing hours for the duration of the exhibit will be Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or free for BHS members.
