A former Far Rockaway resident paid the price on Tuesday for raping his two stepdaughters over the course of a decade, starting when they were just 11 and 14 years old.
After deliberating for only 30 minutes during a trial last month, a jury found Lorenzo “Ren” Arline, 43, who currently lives in Brooklyn, guilty of six counts of first-degree rape and one count of second-degree rape. Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said that Arline was sentenced on April 10 to a determinate term of 150 years in prison to be followed by 15 years’ post release supervision.
According to trial testimony, Arline began to abuse his stepdaughters while they were living in Far Rockaway in 2005 by forcing them to lay naked in the bed with him. Arline then forced himself on the 14-year-old girl and had sex with her, striking her and threatening to shove a coat hanger into her vagina if she continued to struggle.
On one occasion, according to Brown, the victim left the house to see her friends without Arline’s permission. Arline told her to meet him on his way home from work and when she did, he dragged her by her feet with her face scraping against the cement pavement, beat her and violently raped her once back inside their home.
Throughout the years, prosecutors said, the older victim became pregnant and bore five children by Arline.
When the younger victim turned 12, law enforcement sources said, Arline began to rape her as well. She was also threatened with physical harm and eventually bore three children by Arline.
Soon after the older victim turned 24, Arline struck her in the face and her tooth broke. After this incident, she reported the the years of physical and sexual abuse to an official at her child’s school and the police were notified.
“Today’s sentencing concludes an unbelievable case of sexual abuse at the hands of someone who should have been caring for and protecting these young girls,” Brown said. “Instead, this defendant used threats and actual assault to continually rape and control his stepdaughters. As a result of this defendant’s vile actions, he rightfully will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Hopefully, the victims in this case can find some solace in knowing their abuser will never hurt another child again.”
