Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found unconscious with a knife in her back inside her apartment in Astoria on Wednesday morning.
According to Fire Department and police sources, officers and emergency response personnel responded to a call regarding an unconscious woman with a possible cardiac arrest within the Astoria Houses complex at 28-02 Eighth St.
Once inside, they found Donna Blanchard, 64, unconscious and unresponsive with traumatic injuries to her back. According to WPIX-TV, first responders found her in the kitchen, face down on the floor, with the knife stuck in her back.
Blanchard was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The Medical Examiner ruled Blanchard’s death as a homicide. No information about a suspect is available at this time.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
