Law enforcement sources said the attack occurred at 7:30 a.m. on May 6 at the corner of 47th Street and 48th Avenue.
According to authorities, the assailant approached the victim and displayed what was described as a cutting instrument. He then used the foreign object to stab the victim four times in the back before fleeing the scene.
The motive for the attack remains unknown and under investigation, sources familiar with the investigation said.
The victim was taken by private means to Elmhurst Hospital and was listed in stable condition. The incident was later reported to the 108th Precinct.
During their investigation, police obtained two grainy images of the suspect connected to the attack. Cops describe him as a Hispanic man between 25 and 30 years of age.
