An Ozone Park man faces 1 to 3 years behind bars after pleading guilty on Thursday to charges of downloading child pornography onto his home computer over a nearly year-long period.
Luis Ulloa-Rivas, 41, of 93rd Street entered a guilty plea to possessing a sexual performance by a child before Queens Supreme Court Justice Gia Morris. Sentencing is scheduled for July 30; according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Ulloa-Rivas will likely be ordered to spend 1 to 3 years in prison.
Regardless of how long he serves, Ulloa-Rivas will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
Local law enforcement agents executed a search warrant of Ulloa-Rivas’ home on May 4, 2017 as a result of an investigation that started a year earlier. Using tracking software, police determined that, between May 12, 2016 and Feb. 3, 2017, he used his home computer to download graphic images of children being sexually abused off a peer-to-peer network.
On the day of the search, Ulloa-Rivas admitted to police that he had been downloading videos of adults engaging in sexual activity with children.
“In pleading guilty, the defendant has admitted to possessing horrid images of girls and boys being sexually abused,” Brown said. “These disturbing videos, which the defendant traded on a peer-to-peer network, are for all intents and purposes evidence of actual child sexual abuse. The children are real victims of crimes and will have to live with the emotional affects for the rest of their lives. This defendant will now go to jail as a result of his sick viewing habits.”
