A popular sandwich chain will be opening its first location in the borough at Elmhurst’s Queens Center Mall on Halloween.

Firehouse Subs will celebrate its grand opening in the mall’s food court on Oct. 31. The location will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The sandwich shop will offer sandwiches using small, medium and large hot specialty subs, including the number one selling Hook & Ladder sub. The store will also offer over 50 hot sauces and a variety of drinks from their touch-screen Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain.

In addition to their signature subs, the Firehouse Subs location will offer a number of catering options including sandwich and dessert platters, salads and snacks.

“You always hear about the American dream, but I’m living it,” said Syed Alam, owner of this Firehouse Subs franchise. “I was looking for an opportunity to get out of taxi driving and really make an impact in the community. I took one bite of a Firehouse Sub sandwich and was hooked. When I heard how the brand gives back to first responders, I knew this was it.”

Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in 2005. Their mission is to funding, life-saving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations.

Firehouse Subs locations offer leftover, five-gallon pickle buckets to guests for a $2 donation. Canisters are on Firehouse Subs counters to collect change and the Round Up Program allows customers to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar and donate the extra change to the foundation. Through these methods, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has raised $37.7 million to hometown heroes in 47 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, with $371,000 of those grants in the state of New York..
