Sonic Drive-In welcomed the Flushing community to celebrate its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony last weekend.

The Flushing drive-in — located at 136-51 Roosevelt Ave. — hosted a special ribbon cutting ceremony Sept. 29 with balloons and face painting for children, extended Happy Hour with half-priced drinks and slushes, as well as ticket prizes randomly gifted to guests.

Other offers included a six-inch chili cheese coney and all-American hot dogs for $1, free samples of signature slushes and Sonic’s real ice cream, and a 10 percent discount to be applied toward the next visit to the Flushing location.

The drive-in is locally owned and operated by new Sonic franchisee and quick service restaurant industry veteran Raymond Eng. An owner of 10 other fast-food restaurants in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn, Eng brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the industry.

“Sonic’s growing presence is a testament to the brand’s delicious menu items, and we look forward to bringing the Sonic experience to future guests in the Flushing area,” said Alexander Bowen, general manager of the Flushing location. “We welcome the community to stop by and enjoy all that Sonic has to offer.”

Whether it’s to indulge in Sonic fresh-squeezed, tangy, sweet Cherry Limeade, signature crispy tots or a thick and creamy real ice cream shake for dessert, the Flushing community is invited to share a new flavor experience with Sonic.

The Flushing Sonic Drive-In will be open daily from 7 a.m. to midnight.

Sonic, the nation’s largest drive-in restaurant chain serving approximately three million customers everyday, specializes in made-to-order fast food and is known for its speciality items and personal carhop service.

Popular menu items include toaster sandwiches served on thick Texas toast, foot-long quarter pound coneys (hot dogs with chili and cheese), tots and a variety of premium desserts, made with real ice cream.
