Tragedy struck Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst on Monday morning as a 73-year-old woman was fatally hit by an SUV as she attempted to cross the busy roadway, the NYPD reported.

Police said the incident occurred at 6:22 a.m. on Dec. 17 at the corner of Queens Boulevard and 56th Avenue.

According to preliminary information that police obtained, Yimei Gao of 56th Avenue was attempting to walk across Queens Boulevard at the intersection when she was struck by a 2017 Kia, operated by a 38-year-old man, traveling westbound on the roadway.

Upon hitting Gao, the driver pulled over and remained at the scene, police said.

Officers from the 110th Precinct and EMS units responded to a 911 call about the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, cops found Gao lying unconscious on the roadway with trauma about her body.

Responding paramedics pronounced Gao — who lived two blocks away — dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed against the driver at this time, authorities noted. The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is conducting an inquiry.
