Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver in Woodside: NYPD

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver near the Brooklyn Queens Expressway in Woodside on Thursday night.

Police from the 108th Precinct in Long Island City responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and the exit ramp from the southbound BQE.

Officers found an adult man lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive, with head and body trauma. EMS responded to the scene and transported the unidentified hit-and-run victim to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A preliminary investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on the exit ramp from the BQE, approaching the intersection at Broadway, when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street within the marked crosswalk area The vehicle continued southbound on 69th Street, leaving the scene.

There are no arrests and the investigation continues, police said.
