The NYPD on Aug. 19 reclassified the investigation into the June 28 death of a Staten Island man in Jamaica Hills as a homicide.

Police from the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica found 37-year-old Justin Hill with a head injury at the corner of Hillside Avenue and 175th Street near Major Mark Park just after 1 p.m. on June 28. EMS responded to the scene and transported Hill to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation determined that the victim from Staten Island was approached by three men who engaged him in a verbal argument before he was shoved to the ground, causing him to strike his head on the sidewalk, police said.

Upon further examination by hospital staff, it was determined that Hill sustained a fractured skull, as well as a traumatic brain injury, police said. Hill succumbed to his injuries on Friday, Aug. 12.

On Aug. 19, the NYPD released a photo of Hill and announced that the investigation into his assault is now being investigated as a homicide.
