Paw It Forward Pet Pantry is holding its next public pick-up event to give away pet food for struggling owners on Saturday, Sept. 10, in Valley Stream, Long Island.

The organization is a pet food pantry that was established to help owners struggling to provide for their pets. The event will run from 1-2 p.m. where the pantry will give away cat and dog food.

Paw It Forward Pet Pantry says its mission is a little different than most. As winter approaches, many people who are working or going through hard times can have difficulty caring for their pets. This is especially true of one-pet-parent households. The organization believes that pets shouldn’t suffer when people fall short on funds.

Paw It Forward founder Danielle Nathan said the pantry was designed to help all pet owners.

“Our goal is to be a pet food pantry and to assist pet owners when they fall on these difficult times. We hope that if someone has reached out to us for their beloved pets, they will in turn ‘paw it forward’ back to us when and if they are able, so that we may continue to help pets in need,” Nathan said.

Nathan said that the organizations are not limited to pet food donations.

“When we are able, we also help foster-based rescues, Outreach Pet Programs & pet rescues in general. ‘Paw It Forward’ does not take monetary funds. We will take gift cards for pet supplies. We gladly accept all pet food and general supplies,” Nathan said.

Anyone interested in donating to the pantry can check out their Facebook page which has details of drop-off locations.

Pet owners who are interested in partaking in the food giveaway are asked to email happypawitforward@gmail.com with their name, number, and type of pet no later than Friday, Sept. 9.
