Three members of the Floral Park American Legion Post honored fellow veterans at the Holliswood Center in Jamaica on Friday, Nov. 11.

What was supposed to be a parade tour throughout the building had changed to an intimate heartfelt visit by the members of the American Legion, who shook hands and distributed Certificates of Appreciation to 15 of the 20 veterans who reside at the center, located at 195-44 Woodhull Ave. The other five veterans, who are bedridden, received their certificates on Monday, Nov. 14.

“We were so moved that the American Legion came to see their fellow veterans and be here to hand out the certificates,” said Kimberly Louza, Holliswood Center’s Recreation director. “So many of the staff here that attended the ceremony got emotional seeing the smiles mixed with tears. All in all, we were so happy and proud that the American Legion came.”
