The Douglaston Community Theatre is set to put on several shows of the production “Prescription: Murder” throughout the month of May. Written by William Link and Richard Levinson, this play served as the inspiration for the popular detective show “Columbo.”
“Prescription: Murder” is about a psychiatrist coming up with a plan with his mistress to murder his wife. The plan’s execution and the alibis created by the two culprits is dependent upon a bizarre impersonation. Lt. Columbo then engages the psychiatrist in a duel of wits as he attempts to solve the case.
The shows at the Douglaston Community Theatre are scheduled to take place at the Zion Church Parish Hall, located at 243-20 Church St., at 8 p.m. on May 5, 6, 12, 13 and 20. Additionally, there will be shows at 2 p.m. on May 13 and 21.
Each show will be directed by Danny Higgins. The cast of this production includes Renee Cerchia-Cohn, Tom Ciorciari, Ken Cohn, Clare Lowell, Lisa Meckes, Karen Schlachter and Timothy J. Smith.

The play originally premiered on Jan. 20, 1962, at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, CA. Six years later, the detective show “Columbo” made its series premiere on NBC.
