Classic Film Friday: Mean Streets (1973)
Catch a free public screening of the Martin Scorsese crime film “Mean Streets,” starring Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel. This R-rated film follows a small-time hood trying to keep the peace between his friend and the creditors to whom he owes money. St. Fidelis RC Church Street Outreach
St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church will be providing free food, clothing, toiletries, referrals and other assistance to those in need at College Point. (Corner of 14th Avenue and College Point Boulevard, College Point. 9:30 a.m. to noon. Admission: Free)
Oleg Yavorsky and “MusAlliance:” Timeless
Classical musician Oleg Yavorsky and pianist Olga Genua will be performing. Their music is meant to bring heartfelt aria, a dramatic romance and an inspiring instrumental treasure to the audience. (Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing. 7 to 9 p.m. Admission: $27.50 to $60)
Sunday, Sept. 3
Come see the Sublime tribute band Badfish perform at The Rockaway Hotel. The group tries to encompass the sense of place and purpose long associated with Sublime’s music. They have replicated Sublime’s essence, developing a scene and dedicated following most commonly reserved for label-driven, mainstream acts.
