In a significant milestone, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, a 257-bed facility in Far Rockaway that provides emergency and ambulatory care, has proudly achieved a Level 2 designation as an Age-Friendly Health System, a recognition by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, certifying the hospital’s dedication to providing high-quality care for older adults.

The Age-Friendly Health System is an initiative put in place by The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement that is followed through in partnership with the American Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association of the United States.

Becoming an Age-Friendly System involves the adoption of a reliable set of evidence-based elements that ensure the delivery of high-quality care, recognized as the 4Ms: What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility. The implementation of this framework has served and assisted the lives of over 2,480,000 older adults globally.

For the past three months, the hospital has been employing this framework to guide its data collection efforts and focus on enhancing the quality of care for older adults, effectively ensuring that each patient receives personalized and comprehensive care for all aspects of well-being.

Karen Paige, senior vice president and chief quality officer of Episcopal Health Services, said that the hospital has been “deeply committed” to this framework that assures of “elevating the standard of care for older adults.”

“This designation signifies and validates our continued dedication to providing the best possible care for the elderly, and we are excited to further our practice and commitment to the 4Ms,” she added.

The hospital, located on 327 Beach 19th St., stands with Level 2 Age-Friendly Health Systems, which include hospitals, practices, care clinics and nursing homes, with more than 1,900 valued health care providers, to deliver better personalized assistance.
