Affordable housing lottery opens in Kew Gardens, rent starts at $1,522 a month

A total of 13 affordable units are up for grabs at the Metropolitan Senior Apartments in Kew Gardens, with monthly rents ranging from $1,522-$1,937.

The affordable units are part of an 8-story mixed-use building at 132-77 Metropolitan Ave. In total there will be 40 residences in the building, with 27 being market rate.

The city has opened a lottery for the 13 affordable units. Two of them are studio, eight are one-bedroom and three are two-bedroom. All 13 affordable units are for residents earning 80% of the area median income (AMI).

The area median income for the studio units range from $55,578-$90,400. The AMI for the one-bedroom units range from $59,520-$101,680. The AMI for the two-bedroom units range from $71,246-$122,000.

The studio units are meant for up to two people. The one-bedroom units are meant for up to three people. Two-bedroom units are for between two and five people.

Amenities at this building include washers, dryers and dishwashers in each unit, high-end kitchen appliances and countertops and finishes, energy-efficient appliances, air conditioning, smart controls for heating and cooling, high-speed internet, online options for leasing, paying rent and making maintenance requests and patios and balconies. The building will also have a gymnasium, a media room, a spa, a recreation room and a rooftop terrace.

Other features include security cameras, a virtual doorman, gated access, a recycling center, package lockers, an accessible entrance, an intercommunication device, an elevator, covered parking and assigned parking spaces. The building is smoke-free and pet-friendly. It is located near schools and paths for walking, jogging or biking. There is also access to public transportation nearby.
