NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst has entered into a partnership with EHL Hospitality Business School, an institution in hospitality management education based in Switzerland and Singapore.

This collaboration aims to integrate hospitality best practices with healthcare services, promising a transformative impact on patient care and hospital operations.

EHL Hospitality Business School is known for its comprehensive approach to hospitality management education, offering a range of programs from apprenticeships to master’s degrees. The partnership will see EHL students gain invaluable experience by working on hospitality-related projects under the guidance of hospital leadership, thus nurturing the next generation of leaders in care experience.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst is the first healthcare institution worldwide to join the EHL Alliance, an initiative that aligns with Elmhurst Hospital’s mission to serve its diverse community in New York City’s most diverse borough. The hospital hopes to incorporate the best practices learned via the partnership to improve patient services.

Mitchell Katz, MD, President, and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals, emphasized the initiative’s potential to revolutionize the way healthcare providers interact and deliver services. “This will be a beacon for what’s possible throughout the NYC Health + Hospitals System,” Katz stated, highlighting the goal to offer the highest quality health care services to all New Yorkers.

Dr. Helen Arteaga-Landaverde, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, expressed excitement about being the first American healthcare facility to implement a care delivery model inspired by hospitality. She believes that incorporating hospitality sector’s core experiential concepts will further enhance the person-centered care Elmhurst is known for.

Echoing this, Dr. Achim Schmitt, Dean of EHL Hospitality Business School, welcomed Elmhurst into the EHL Alliance, recognizing the partnership as a pioneering effort to extend hospitality expertise to healthcare.

The EHL Alliance includes notable corporate and hospitality sector members such as Cartier, ECOLAB, Four Seasons, Hyatt, LVMH, and Swiss Air, demonstrating the network’s extensive reach and influence.

“Through the Alliance, EHL Hospitality Business School will provide us with the professional network of industry innovators whose outside-of-the-box thinking will guide us in improving our healthcare delivery for generations to come.” said NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst Chief Experience Officer Pierre Pham.
