A Flushing woman was out for her morning run Thursday when she was struck and killed by an SUV driver on the Clearview Expressway service road in Bayside, according to the NYPD.

Elisa Maria Bellere, 58, from the Murray Hill section of Flushing, was jogging about 1.4 miles from her house when she was hit at around 6:30 a.m. by a 73-year-old man who remained at the scene.

Police from the 111th Precinct in Bayside responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian stuck at the intersection of 32nd Avenue and the Clearview Expressway service road near Bayside Fields shortly after the incident.

Officers found Bellere unconscious and unresponsive on the roadway with trauma to her head and body. EMS responded to the scene and rushed her to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens where she was pronounced a short while later, police said.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that Bellere was jogging in the crosswalk at the intersection when she was struck by a blue Toyota Highlander traveling southbound on the service road past the Bayside Fields. It isn’t clear whether the 73-year-old had a green light.

There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
