The Middle Village Players Roller Hockey League followed its first official start of the season with a nail-biting second set of games as the young players enter the 2024 season.

On Saturday, April 13, the Thunder Trucks prevailed over the Dolphins in the league’s first-ever shootout. The two teams played to a 5-5 tie in regulation before the Thunder Trucks won the shootout 2-1 to secure the victory.

Paul Pogozelski and Tommy Cernan on the Thunder Trucks propelled their team to victory with hat tricks for each of them, while Goalie Anthony Corso swatted 27 out of 32 shots away from the opposing Dolphins.

For the Dolphins, stand-out competitors Quinn Tashiro and Jake Browne each netted 2 goals for their team, while player Gino Campo filled in for the Dolphins goalie. Campo saved 24 of the 29 Shots he faced, leading to overtime. Thunder Trucks ultimately secured the win in the shootout.

The second game of the day showcased the power of the land over the skies as The Tigers and the High Flyers went head-to-head to take possession of 1st place in the League. With less than one minute left in regulation, Tigers player Daniel Gonzalez scored the game-winning goal that secured the Tiger’s victory, 4-3, over last year’s champions.

Tigers Goalie Alex Sliwa stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced, showcasing a mighty defense against his opponents, while High Flyers Goalie Juan Jose Munoz played good defense in stopping 21 of the 25 shots made at his net. An impressive display unfolded as individual players on both teams showcased a diverse range of skills, scoring all seven goals individually.
