An off-duty firefighter leapt over the pews during an Easter Sunday service at St. Teresa’s Church in Woodside to put out a small blaze in a back room that sent hundreds fleeing, the New York Post reported.
O’Conner attacked the blaze until city Fire Department crews responded and brought the fire under control by 1:01 p.m. A fire official said the all-hands blaze was reported at 12:26 p.m.
