The floor had not yet been painted and the pew was still in North Carolina waiting to be shipped, but members of the Presbyterian Church of St. Albans Sunday celebrated the opening of the renovated and expanded center as if the building represented a small miracle.
The Rev. Al Sharpton was on hand to celebrate the near completion of the sanctuary and community center. Sharpton appeared almost giddy as his longtime friend, Pastor Edward Davis, introduced him and praised his work as an activist with the National Action Network, on whose board Davis serves as a director.
