We always like to hear from the kids themselves – what's going on in their school or neighborhood, and what they think. We also welcome original writing, play and movie reviews, reports from schools, poetry, drawings, and photos.

Children 7 years old and up can hear selected readings from “Dear Dr. King” and talk about the civil rights leader's life and dream, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at Queens Botanical Gardens, 43-50 Main St., Flushing. admission. 718-8863800.

“The Story of Anne Frank,” based on the classic diary of the girl hidden from but eventually discovered by the Nazis, will be presented Saturday, Jan. 27 at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. 718-482-5151.

Theater Workshop Productions presents an original musical fantasy, “Peter Pan,” based on the classic tale of the boy who never wants to grow up, at Fantasy Playhouse in Lynbrook, L.I. for several performances next month. Call 516-599-1982.

Children 5 to 12 years old are welcome to participate in a Musical Theatre Workshop at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 at the Rego Park Library, 91-41 63rd Drive, or at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19 at the Hollis Library, 202-05 Hillside Ave.

The KidsClassic series presents “Hear the Organ” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at Queens College. 718-793-8080.

Children 3 to 8 years old can “Have Fun with Books” – reading aloud and crafts – on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at MS 172 in Floral Park. 718-347-3279.

Toddlers can place their “Footprints in the Snow” from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Alley Pond Environmental Center. 718-229-4000.

Help with homework is offered weekdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 81-10 35th Ave., Jackson Heights. 718-446-0690.

The Astro Club, with projects and activities for all ages, meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. 718-699-0005, ext. 349. The Hall also offers a continuing Science Playground for children 6 years or older accompanied by an adult.

Many performances are scheduled in the 2000-2001 season of Queens Theatre in the Park. They are all a great way for kids to tear away from their video and computer monitors and experience the magic of live theater. Call 718-760-0064.
