Whitestone Residents Battling Q-14 Bus Line Extension

"Why are they forcing us to have a bus route that we dont want," said civic activist Aline Martello, who helped collect over 950 names in protest of the bus route. "The neighborhood has pulled together and has never been so united."
At an emergency meeting last Monday, the Greater Whitestone Taxpayer Civic Association tentatively scheduled a public meeting in the Whitestone Armory on Feb. 5, according to its President Bob Tramunti.
MTAs Assistant Director of Government Relations Joseph Raskin says that the proposed route change is not a spur of the moment decision.
This public transportation route had not changed significantly since 1922, said Raskin. The significant population growth and construction of new homes in the area prompted the MTAs move to improve service on the Q-14 line over a year ago.
Raskin also pointed out that the current route-ending turn-around at Clintonville St. and 7 Ave. was not in the safest location, particularly during inclement weather.
