More than 2,000 students from 19 city public schools – including PS 43 in Far Rockaway and Martin dePorres in Springfield Gardens – will showcase their dancing skills in a three-day “Event of the Year” starting Friday, April 27. The event, produced by the National Dance Institute, is at the concert hall at LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts at Amsterdam Avenue and 65th Street in Manhattan at 6:30 p.m. April 27; 11:30 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28; and 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 30.
The Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning offers a free workshop for parents and children without computer access at home. The workshops meet on the third Sunday of each month through Aug. 19. Call 658-7400, Ext. 11.
Children 3 to 8 years old can “Have Fun with Books” – reading aloud and crafts – on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at MS 172 in Floral Park. 718-347-3279.
Help with homework is offered weekdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 81-10 35th Ave., Jackson Heights. 718-446-0690.
The Astro Club, with projects and activities for all ages, meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. 718-699-0005, ext. 349. The Hall currently is exhibiting “Psychology: It's More Than You Think.”
Many performances are scheduled in the 2000-2001 season of Queens Theatre in the Park. They are all a great way for kids to tear away from their video and computer monitors and experience the magic of live theater.
