Theater, events, shows abound in boro, L.I.

The 23rd annual Thunderbird American Indian Mid-Summer Pow-Wow will be held at the Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, from Friday July 27 through Sunday, July 29 – three days of intertribal Native American Dance competitions. More than 40 Indian nations will be represented.

Bugs and Balloons presents “Love Bug Hugs” at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17 as part of the “Arts in the Parks” series every Tuesday through Aug. 14 on the great Lawn of Rufus King Park, Jamaica Avenue and 153rd Street.

Kids will hear from storytellers dressed as butterfly, moths and other insects.

Cultural Cooperative-Jamaica's “Arts in the Parks” is now in its sixth season ; the event is supported by the AXA foundation, the City Parks Foundation and the New York City Parks and Recreation Department. For more information call CCJ at 718- 526-3217.

The Theater Workshop Entertainment presents “West Side Story” and “Pinocchio”. “West Side Story,” a timeless tale of teenage love set to music by Leonard Bernstein is scheduled to be performed every Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 4 p.m. Through August 19th.

Tickets are $15, $13 for students and seniors. “Pinocchio”, a heart warming musical fantasy based on the classic tale, opens on Saturday June 23rd at 1 PM. All tickets are $8:00, but group discounts are available. Call 516-599-1982 for more information.

The Queens Borough Public Library is accepting applications for the 2001-2002 Individual Artist showcase. The individual Artist Showcase is CO-sponsored by the Queens Library and the alliance of Queens Artist.

Slides or photos of three of the artist work along with a completed entry form should be submitted by Aug. 31.

The Individual Artist Showcase provides an opportunity for library customers to view the work of talented artist, while giving local artists a forum in which to showcase their work.
