The summer is getting hotter — and so are the many events for adults as well as children.
The Community Dinner for July was sponsored by the American Legion 853.

Be a Clown Workshop at the Poppenhusen Institute, 114-04 14th Road, College Point, Ages 6-12 years old. Laine Barton, who has performed with the Big Apple Circus, teaches children how to do juggling, mime and how to make the audience laugh. Holy Trinity students won baseball championship. Six students from Holy Trinity School led their team to the Whitestone Little League championship, defeating several other teams to capture the Minor Division title of the Dwarf Giraffe Athletic League. The students in the classes of Mrs. Mosconi, Mrs. Hengl and Mrs. Venute were Patrick Berndt, Manuel Barcena, Dennis Brennan, Kenny Lehr, Will Neubauer and Steven Stahura. The team swept the playoff series in four straight games which made their coaches, Warren Berndt, Gary Lehr, Irwin Neubauer, Bob Flynn and Diana Stahura very proud.
Holy Trinity students also captured second place. Four students from Holy Trinity led their team to the championship final of the Whitestone Little League, capturing second place in the major division of the Dwarf Giraffe Athletic League. Jose Barcena, Michael Berndt. Andrew Lehr and Sho Yogotogowa, all students of Mrs. Madden, made their coaches Warren Berndt and Gary Lehr very proud of the team’s accomplishments and strong play through-out the season.
There will be another park concert at MacNeil Park, 5th Avenue and College Place, College Point on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. The American Concert Band is a 35-member band performing show tunes and classical pieces, with conductor Dr. Kirby Jolly. Sponsored by Flushing Council on the Arts with special support by Poppenhusen Institute. Funded by Councilman Mike Abel. Call 718-358-0067. Space is limited.
Regular classes for Mommy and Me and Playgroup will start Sept. 10 at the First Reformed Church in College Point. The new coordinators and the new director for both programs is Claudine Scheu.
Country Line dancing Classes at Poppenhusen Institute. For exercise, fellowship and fun: Mondays 7-8 p.m. $5. Intermediate 8-9:30 p.m. $6. Free open house Monday, Sept. 10, 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
SABINA SAYS — It is really fun running around to all the children’s events with my grandchildren, Eric and Brian. We saw the Cole Circus, the movies “Cats and Dogs,” “Dr. Doolittle 2,” and “Atlantis,” and a Cinderella puppet show!
