DOUGLASTON — A 50-year-old man and his wife, 42. of 46-85 243rd St., were mugged by two men about 11:25 p.m. last Thursday, police said. Officers reported that one of the muggers hit the man over the head with a handgun and punched the woman in the face as the couple was returning home.
The assailants, thought to be about 18 and 20 years old, took the man’s wallet and the woman’s purse, police said. The victims refused medical aid, but were treated for minor injuries, police reported.
There were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing.
Housing cop arrested after domestic dispute
QUEENS — Officer Salvatore Alfarone, assigned to Housing Bureau Queens Viper 8, was arrested on charges of being involved in a domestic dispute about 10:30 p.m. last Thursday, and subsequently was suspended by Borough Patrol North Chief James Tuller, police said.
Two shot, one dies in South Jamaica
SOUTH JAMAICA – #One man was killed and another was in critical condition after a shooting at the corner of 126th Avenue and Merrick Boulevard last Thursday morning, police said.
When officers arrived on the scene just before 5 a.m. they found a 24-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds in his chest. He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he died, police said.
At 5:30 a.m., Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn reported a 30-year-old man walked into the emergency room with three gunshot wounds in his chest, police said. He was in critical condition, police said.
Neither victim was identified, and police were unsure of the motive behind the shootings, which they said appeared to be related. No guns were recovered, and the investigation was continuing.
Two men arrested after fight at Ozone Park club
OZONE PARK – Two Woodhaven men were arrested early Saturday morning on charges of assault after a fight broke out in front of the Gemini Lounge at 108th Street and Liberty Avenue, police said. Two other men were injured, police said.
Jesus Cruz, 35, of 101-07 78th St., and John Capers, 29, of 94 Eldert Lane allegedly slashed one man in the neck and another in the wrist as they were leaving the club, police said.
The victims were taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
Police also arrested and charged a third man, Hector Rivera, 22, of Brooklyn.
Rikers Island cop arrested on menacing charge
JAMAICA — Corrections Officer Kevin Durant, assigned to Rikers Island, was arrested in the vicinity of 180th Street and Anderson Avenue last Thursday at 10:19 p.m., police said. He was charged with menacing and harassment.
Car strikes boy, 11, riding bicycle in Jamaica
JAMAICA — An 11-year-old boy riding a bicycle at the intersection of 93rd Avenue and 175th Street was struck by a car about 1:15 p.m. Aug. 28, police said. Officers reported the car was traveling eastbound on 93rd Avenue before hitting the boy.
The child was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition with a knee injury, police said. There were no arrests or summonses issued and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
Woman found dead in Cambria Heights home
CAMBRIA HEIGHTS – A 45-year-old woman was found dead in her home Sunday afternoon, police said.
Barbara Bryant, of 118-10 221st St., was discovered dead at the foot of the basement stairs at 2:25 p.m., police said. The medical examiner was to determine the cause of death, and the investigation was continuing.
Man hit by car dies at S. Ozone Park intersection
SOUTH OZONE PARK — A man was struck by a car and killed late Tuesday night at the intersection of North Conduit Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard, police said.
The man, in his 30s, was hit at about 10:25 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No further details were available and police were continuing with an investigation late Tuesday night.
Screaming woman scares off burglar from Holliswood home
HOLLISWOOD – Officers from the 103rd Precinct responded to a burglary complaint at 88-21 201st St. Aug. 28.
The 53-year-old woman who lives at the address told the officers she awoke to find a man standing in her bedroom. He apparently entered the house through a rear window but fled after the woman screamed, police said.
No arrests had been made, and the investigation was continuing.
Man arrested after assault on brother in Rockaways
ROCKAWAYS — A 24-year-old man’s brother knocked him over the head with a hammer about 2:45 p.m., Aug. 28, police said. There was no explanation why Kevin Rolley, 23, of 538 Beach 69th St. assaulted his brother, who was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable but serious condition, police said.
Rolley was charged with assault and criminal possession with a weapon, officers reported.
Pet python bites Howard Beach woman
HOWARD BEACH — A 22-year-old woman was bitten by her pet python Aug. 28 at 10:15 a.m. at the Surfside Three Motel, 164-33 Cross Bay Boulevard, police said. Emergency service unit officers removed the animal without incident and transported it to animal control.
There were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
Richmond Hill insurance man charged with conspiring to kill
RICHMOND HILL – A Guyanese immigrant from Richmond Hill was charged Tuesday in several murder-for-hires here and abroad in a life insurance scheme that allegedly leads back to a well-known insurance agent in Ozone Park, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District said.
Ronald Mallay, 57, was charged in federal court in Brooklyn with conspiring in a murder plot, accusing him of killing two men – one in January 1998 in an Ozone Park playground, and another in Port Mourant, Guyana in June 1999. The victims were allegedly insured through Richard James, who was also charged in the scheme.
The federal investigation was continuing, but so far only Mallay and James had been charged.
2 arrested in connection with Astoria robberies
ASTORIA – Two men were arrested Friday in connection with a string of robberies in Queens and Manhattan, police said.
Steven Spavone, 45, and Jose Clariot, 36, both of the Bronx, would allegedly use a semi-automatic gun to steal cars out of Manhattan parking garages, and then drives into Queens to rob Astoria businesses, police said.
The pair allegedly pulled this scheme three times, hitting garages on Second Avenue, West 68th Street and East 97th Street in Manhattan, and businesses at 31-18 Broadway, 23-55 Broadway, and 39-04 Northern Blvd. in Queens, police said. No details were available on when each of these businesses were robbed or what charges the men faced.
Robbers hit Glendale jeweler, take $50,000 in merchandise
GLENDALE – Robbers made off with at least $50,000 worth of jewelry when they broke into a Glendale jewelry store Tuesday morning, police said.
An unknown number of thieves broke into A and J Jewelers at 57-44 Myrtle Ave. about 10:30 a.m., gaining entry into the ground-floor store through the roof of the three-story building, police reported. They stole jewels from the display cases and fled.
No arrests had been made and the investigation was continuing, police said.
Woodhaven man arrested on bank robbery charge
WOODHAVEN – A Woodhaven man was arrested and charged with robbery Saturday after he allegedly held up a Manhattan bank, police said.
Carlos Moran, 26, of 106-07 78th St. was accused of entering the HSBC bank at 186 E. 86th St., Aug. 6 and passing the teller a note demanding money, police said. Moran had taken an undetermined amount of money, police said.
Ammo, mortar shells found at vacant Howard Beach home
HOWARD BEACH — Police found hunting ammunition and 15 mortar shells in an abandoned house at 158-39 97th St. after being called to the scene because two 12-year-old boys were playing on the property, police said.
Police said after the officers arrived about 3:30 p.m. Aug. 28, they found the ammunition while searching for other children. The owner of the home, who lives in Florida, explained his dead father — a hunter and World War II veteran — had lived there and some of his possessions were left.
Police said the bomb squad would remove the ammunition.
Forest Hills woman raped and robbed
FOREST HILLS — A 20-year-old woman was raped by a white male in her home about 10:30 a.m. last Thursday, 112th Precinct police said. The assailant apparently broke into the house through a window, officers reported.
The man, thought to be 30 or 40, also stole $300 from the victim, who was taken to Northshore Hospital for treatment, police said.
There were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing.
