Police Blotter: Flushing man kidnapped, rescued by cops in Jersey

FLUSHING — A man was abducted from a Flushing street corner this week and later freed when his kidnappers’ car was stopped by police in New Jersey, authorities said.

Arka Stanek, 26, Jason Berrios, 28, both of New Jersey, pulled up to a 34-year-old man at Union Turnpike and Main Street at 7 p.m. Sunday and forced him into the car, demanding money they claimed was owed to them, police said.

The suspects then drove the victim to Bergen County, New Jersey, where their vehicle was stopped by police for a traffic infraction at 9 p.m. Monday, police said.

The two captors were arrested and their victim released without injury, cops said.

Man arrested in Oakland Gdns. on criminal contempt charge

OAKLAND GARDENS — A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday for allegedly violating an order of protection, police said.

Thomas Gruich, 19, was arrested and charged with criminal contempt at 3:48 a.m. Monday when he was found at the 64th Avenue location, police said.

He then attempted to flee after his arrest but was apprehended a short distance away at 64th Avenue and 233rd Place without further incident, police said.

Maspeth man dies of injuries following fight at nightclub

FLUSHING — A Maspeth man died from injuries sustained in a fight in front of a nightclub Oct. 14, police said.

Jang Kim, 54, of 69-30 52nd Dr. suffered three fractured ribs as a result of an 8 p.m. altercation in front of a nightclub at 41-71 Bowne St., police said.

Kim died as a result of his injuries the following day, police said.

Police originally arrested Kwang Chon, 49, of 47-20 Robinson St. on charges of assault in connection with the fight.

But after the investigation, the Queens district attorney determined Kim’s death was not the result of a criminal act, and the charges were dropped.

Off-duty police captain arrested on DWI charge

LINDEN HILL — An off-duty police captain was arrested Tuesday on charges of driving while intoxicated after getting involved in a car accident, police said.

Capt. Gerard Mines of the Queens Transit Bureau allegedly collided with another vehicle at the intersection of 35th Avenue and Parsons Boulevard Tuesday, police said. No one was injured.

He was charged with DWI and suspended from the force, authorities said.

Man arrested on assault, weapons charges after stabbing

FLUSHING — A man in his 30s was stabbed once in the chest in front of 34-02 Linden Place about 1:15 p.m. Friday, police said.

The victim was taken to New York Hospital Queens in serious but stable condition.

Police arrested Kim Ki San, 36, at the scene, cops said. He was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Girl hit by bus in Jamaica listed in serious condition

JAMAICA — A teenage girl was in serious condition after being struck by a bus Monday, police said.

A Green Bus hit the 15-year-old girl at 4:50 p.m. Monday at the corner of 146th Street and 101st Avenue, police said.

The bus driver told police he did not see the girl, who had stepped off the corner into the street, until she was struck and fell beneath the bus.

Emergency services and Fire Department personnel lifted the bus with tools and removed the girl.

She was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.

No arrests or summonses were issued as a result of the accident, police said.

Man killed in Jamaica Avenue auto accident

JAMAICA — A man was killed in a car accident early Sunday, police said.

A 28-year-old man headed eastbound on Jamaica Avenue in a 1998 Lexus collided with a 1982 Oldsmobile that was headed westbound near 148th Street about 3:35 a.m., police said.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 39-year-old man, was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No summonses were issued and no arrests were made, police said. The investigation was ongoing.

Far Rockaway man arrested after hit-and-run incident

FAR ROCKAWAY — A Far Rockaway man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly failing to stop his car after striking a child, police said.

Alfredo Rodriguez, 31, a mechanic who lives at 22-16 New Haven Ave., was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, police said.

He was driving his 1998 Nissan SUV westbound on Cornaga Avenue at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday when he approached a traffic light and allegedly went to the right of a single lane of stopped traffic, striking a 4-year-old boy who was crossing Beach 20th Street with his babysitter, police said.

The boy suffered bruises and a laceration to his leg but was listed in stable condition at St. John’s Hospital.

Rodriguez already had six suspensions, police said.

Man under care for trauma at Jamaica Hospital dies

JAMAICA — A man who walked into Jamaica Hospital last month for treatment of trauma died last Thursday, police said.

The victim, a 51-year-old man, entered the hospital about 4:35 p.m. Sept. 22 and was admitted for trauma treatment, police said.

He died last Thursday at 8 a.m., police said.

The medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.

Woman reports being raped at Jamaica club

JAMAICA — A woman reported she was raped at a club early Saturday morning, police said.

The 27-year-old victim told police she was in a club near 109th Avenue and Sutphin Boulevard at 4:30 a.m. when two men pulled her into a doorway and raped her, police said. She was later taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

No arrests were made and the investigation was continuing.

Police arrest St. Albans man after Manhattan robbery

MANHATTAN — A St. Albans man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a Manhattan street robbery, police said.

Emanuel Avent, 28, of 113-07 169th St., was one of four men who allegedly held up a 34-year-old man at gunpoint near a parking lot at 31 W. 21st St. around 1:30 a.m. after his two companions drove off, police said.

The group allegedly took jewelry, a wallet and $800 in cash from the victim before fleeing on foot, police said.

Avent and the three accomplices were soon arrested after being stopped by police and identified by the victim, police said.

Ridgewood man plows into Woodhaven store: Cops

WOODHAVEN — A Ridgewood man was arrested Tuesday night after he crashed his car into a Woodhaven Boulevard storefront, police said.

Robert Hiris, 40, of 58-20 69th Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular assault and criminal possession of marijuana after cops noticed the odor of alcohol on his breath as they investigated the accident, police said.

Hiris had been driving southbound on Woodhaven Boulevard near Myrtle Avenue around 6 p.m. Tuesday when his car jumped the curb and crashed through a storefront window, striking a man in his 50s who was standing inside, police said.

The man was listed in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital, where Hiris was also taken for observation after he hit his head against the windshield.

He was also found to be in possession of marijuana, police said.

Teen gang robs two men, stabbing one, in Astoria

ASTORIA — A mob of teens robbed two men on the street Monday night, police said.

The two victims were walking on the corner of 14th Street and 31st Road when a group of five to eight youths in their late teens approached them, one of them drawing a knife and demanding money, police said.

One victim, an 18-year-old man, gave up $150, but his 23-year-old companion resisted and was stabbed several times in the torso, police said.

The gang then fled on foot.

The stabbing victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, police said.

The investigation was ongoing.

Two armed men rob Woodside store, get $800

WOODSIDE — Two men armed with a handgun entered a telecommunications store at 45-59 46th St. demanding money about 9:45 p.m. Saturday, police said.

They fled with $500 in an unknown direction, police said. No one was injured. The investigation was ongoing.
