More than 4,000 running enthusiasts, including many top distance runners from the tri-state area, are expected to enter into the 25th Annual Queens Half-Marathon Saturday, May 17. The gun goes off at 8:10 a.m. outside of McNeil Park in College Point.
In addition, runners who are not ready take to the 13.1-mile course still chance to compete in the annual Skaggs-Walsh 5K. Race director Leo Nicholas expects about 500 runners to test the 3.1 miles course. The 5K race goes off at 8 a.m.
The course for both races takes the athletes through the streets of College Point and Malba. Both races end within McNeil Park. In addition to age group awards, the half-marathon offers $2,000 in cash prizes to top three male and female finishers .
The half-marathon is the second in a series of such races in each borough and is part of the New York Road Runners Club Grand Prix Series with points earned by the top finishers.
The College Point Board of Trade is also awarding two $250 scholarships to the first full-time male and female students from College Point or Malba to finish the 5K, which is having its 13th running.
