Niko Scott and Joe Deluca led the Christ the King Royals with 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the defending CHSAA state champions picked up their first win of the league season with an 89-64 win over Monsignor McClancy Sunday.
Deluca also added 10 rebounds as Christ the King improved to 1-4 in CHSAA play and 5-5 overall.
Nick Hamilton-Lopez led McClancy with 31, while Will Borgolte added 15. The Crusaders dropped to 6-5 overall and 0-3 in league play with the loss.
Holy Cross 68, Cardinal Hayes 56. The Knights were led by junior Kevin Ogeltree’s 18 points, followed by Michael Johnson with 17 and Gordon McKenzie with 14 as Cross improved to 8-2 overall on the year.
All Hallows 54, Christ the King 50. Ronald Ramon scored a game-high 24 points and hit the crucial baskets late to lead the Gaels over the Royals this weekend. Albert Forbes added 13 for the victors. The Royals were led by Larry Davis with 13.
Archbishop Molloy 67, Riverdale (Ga.) 55. Tournament MVP Sundiata Gaines scored 32 points to lead the Stanners to the 12-point win in the fifth-place game of the Arby’s Classic in Bristol, Tenn.
Vincent Falzone chipped in 17 points and 13 rebounds. Gaines broke the tournament’s total points and free throws made records with 147 points and 38 made from the line.
Archbishop Molloy 78, Bartlett (Tenn.) 64. Gaines scored 46 points with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in the tournament win.
Bishop Loughlin 103, St. Francis Prep 100 (2 OTs). A three-pointer by Khalil McDonald just as time expired captured the annual Monsignor King Tournament for the Brooklyn school. The Terriers, now 9-2, were led by Andrew Cashin’s 37 points and Bryan Geffen’s 35.
St. Francis Prep 57, Poly Prep 54. Geffen led the Terriers with 23 points, but it was Brian Fink’s jumper with 2:15 to go that put St. Francis in front to stay. Poly Prep’s Liam Biesty led all scorers with 23.
Christ the King 52, Gonzaga (D.C.) 40 (OT). Senior forward Brian Beckford paced the Royals with 12 points and nine rebounds, while teammates Scott and Chris Martin added 12 and 10 points apiece for the Christ the King at the Stop DWI Tournament in Binghamton.
Christ the King 70, St. Thomas Aquinas 59. Larry Davis and Scott paced the Royals with 16 points each in this tournament win early last week.
