Opening day parade information
The 2004 RGMVM Little League season kicks off from Mafera Park April 3 at 9 a.m. All players must report in uniform by 8:30 a.m. to march with their teams.
The High Stepping Jackie Robinson Band will lead the way to Seither Stadium. Scheduled to attend the opening-day ceremonies are state Sen. Serphin Maltese, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, Assemblyman Michael Cohen, Councilman Dennis Gallagher and former City Councilman Tom Ognibene.
Don’t miss this great day of fun. At the conclusion the players will have their team picture taken and be treated to hot dogs and juice. Parents and siblings are invited to march with the players. Contact your team manager if you have any questions.
All league managers and coaches will be required to carry an RGMVM league coaches’ card. Get yours now if you do not already have one. Call your player agent for further details. No one will be allowed on the field without one. The umpires and board personnel will be enforcing this rule.
All Little League volunteer forms must be filled out for the 2004 season. No one will be issued a coaches’ card without an up-to-date form on file with the league.
All equipment bags, equipment, baseballs and score books must be requested immediately. Please call Jeff Catalano as soon as possible. All managers are to make sure they bring game balls for every game.
Any parent who does not complete the mandatory work detail for the 2004 season will be charged a $50 assessment on his or her 2005 registration. The lack of volunteer help in getting the complex ready for the 2004 season as well as the poor turnout for work detail will most likely force an increase in registration fees in 2005. Do your work detail.
Managers, please remind your parents to get involved and pitch in to help keep registration fees down. It is your league.
All 2004 season game-day schedules as well as team and manager contact lists are available for download from the league’s Web site, www.rgmvm.com.
The 2003 Big League power pitcher of the year was Kate Scotko. After seven years at RGMVM, Kate has brought a new dimension to girls’ softball. She was the first windmill pitcher and opened the door for other girls to follow.
Through Kate’s example other girls are taking windmill lessons, playing travel ball and competing at the high school level. This spring, Kate will be finishing her career at Stella Maris High School. Next year she will be moving into the NCAA ranks on the Molloy College softball team.
The Senior Division pitcher of the year was Samantha Stallone. Sammy led the way for Glendale Diner on the mound with her tremendous control and determination. Sammie went undefeated in the last two seasons for the Diner.
Sammie makes her entire team better by pitching and not just throwing. This quality sets her aside from the rest. Sammie starts her high school career this spring and will take her game to the next level. The sky is the limit for young hurler Stallone, who continues to prove she is one of the best big game pitchers at RGMVM.
In the Major League Division, Dayna Ferran’s power pitching made her the standout on the mound. Dayna was undefeated in the 2003 regular season as well as during play-off competition. The ace on Schawaroch Chapels, Dayna led her team to victory in the 2003 Major Division World Series championship. As a student of Diana DiGilio and Julie Bolduc, Dayna has many years left at RGMVM and many championships ahead of her.
Since Kate Scotko started the trend in windmill pitching, the RGMVM softball program has a full arsenal of up-and-coming power pitchers and they deserve mention. Kayley Ferran, Lynn Schiano, Krystil Hofmann, Olivia Auman, Cecilia Ehressmen, Johanna Rice, Nicole Croquez, Stephanie Bristol and Danielle Esposito are expected to keep this program strong for many years to come.
