Mass Electric and Lamboy Chiropractic of the DG Minors Hockey League played a very close match Sunday. The teams went back and forth throughout the game, with great goaltending from Emily Becker of Mass Electric and from D. Postiglion of Lamboy.
Mass Electric opened the scoring with Jet Lem’s getting it through for a 1-0 lead. He came right back with another, assisted by George Brockmann, to make it 2-0, Mass Electric. Lamboy Chiropractic got on the board with A. Pisocono sliding it in, assisted by F. Gaizo.
Mass Electric’s Kyle Walsh got it into the net, assisted by Jet Lem, for a 3-1 Mass Electric lead. Lamboy Chiropractic rang up two more, by D. Pagano and F. Gaizo (his second for the day), to end the first period with a 3-3 tie. Both teams played great offense as the second period began with J. Favalora’s scoring for Lamboy Chiropractic.
But Mass Electric’s Jet Lem brought it right back as he rang it home again, his third on the day, to make to it 4-4. Lamboy Chiropractic’s Dean Rodriguez gave his team the lead to make it 5-4, but Jet Lem wasn’t through as he notched his fourth goal to tie the score again at 5-5 to end the second period.
They both fought hard defensively in the third period, but Dean Rodriguez gave Lamboy Chiropractic the lead, 6-5, with his second goal. Once again Mass Electric kept right with them as Kyle Walsh smacked home his second goal to tie it at 6-6.
Both teams tried hard to get good opportunities and played tight hockey, but Lamboy Chiropractic’s J. Favalora put his second on the board for a 7-6 Lamboy Chiropractic lead. This did not deter the Mass Electric players, as they pulled out all stops, driving repeatedly to the Lamboy offensive zone.
Lamboy Chiropractic pushed back the attempts and Dean Rodriguez finished the scoring on the afternoon with his third of the day to make the final score 8-6, Lamboy Chiropractic.
Coffee Lovers 5, Mass Electric 2.
In a makeup game due to a rainout, Coffee Lovers and Mass Electric faced off in a DG Minors hockey match. Both teams played good hockey, with no goals being scored in the third period.
Christina Krupp played goal for Mass Electric and made very good saves. This was the first time she played goalie. Coffee Lovers opened up the scoring with a goal by C. Lenis at the 12:15 mark of the first period. Mass Electric held them in check until 7:30 of the first period, when J. Murray slipped one past for a 2-0 score.
Mass Electric got good opportunities, but Coffee Lovers goalie T. Bellomo held tight. S. Mongo got the puck through for Coffee Lovers at 18:29 for a 3-0 lead at the end of one. Mass Electric held off Coffee Lovers until C. Lenis got his second as he squeaked one by at 14:50 of the second period. Mass Electric fought right back when Kyle Walsh hit it home, assisted by Emily Becker, to put the team on the board at the 10:30 mark of the second period.
Coffee Lovers followed with a goal from R. Martino, assisted by J. Murray. The teams kept up the close battle until Mass Electric’s Kyle Walsh tallied one for his second on the day. The second period ended with the score 5-2, Coffee Lovers.
The third period was very exciting, as both teams held each other in check. Mass Electric got very good goaltending from Christina Krupp as well as good defensive play from Emily Becker, George Brockmann and Jarid Labades.
Jet Lem and Kyle Walsh put on offensive pressure, but Coffee Lovers goalie T. Bellomo and his teammates held them off, with the final being 5-2, Coffee Lovers.
Lamboy Chiropractic 6, Coffee Lovers 6.
Lamboy Chiropractic came away with a 6-6 tie against Coffee Lovers. After Robert Pagano scored the first of his two goals, John Sakelos then put the puck in the net.
Dean Rodriquez went from one end to the other and made a great shot past the Coffee Lovers goalie. Lamboy Chiropractic was on its way but Coffee Lovers scored the next three goals to make the score 4-3. Lamboy scored the next two goals: Joseph Favalora’s low shot made the score 5-3 and Maggie Todaro scored the last on a great rebound from right in front (her second goal in two games) that made the score 6-3. But Coffee lovers scored the last three goals to make the final score 6-6
Girls’ softball
D&R General Construction vs. SSMC Electrical
D&R General Construction had a hard-fought tie with SSMC Electrical. The game went back and forth, and not one team went ahead by fewer than two runs at a time.
Ashley Schwenk, who came back from a leg injury, had a solid day playing third base and added three hits and a couple of RBIs. Enelisse Colella added two hits and scored a couple of runs, and Daniele Kline played a great game both on and off the field.
Emily Reilly played a solid game on the field, throwing out runners trying to get hits.
Champion Construction vs. Ranshaw
Champion Construction played its best game of the year against Ranshaw. Jon Carlo Casabianca had some key hits and played a great right field, and Sal Casabianca came up big at the plate. But by far the best play of the night belonged to Megan Finnerty, who made two great plays and went 2-for-2. Daniel Lettire and Richie LaRosa played a great game.
The girls’ Minor softball game saw D&R General Contracting play an outstanding game May 8 against Jam Service. Christen Kulogowski played well on the field and also had some key hits. Lydia Saro played a great first base, stealing a sure double out of the air for the put out at first.
Chloe Fallon and Samantha Favalora had some timely hits, and Ashley Schwenk played a great third base. Watch out when these girls get in the majors.
