The Midville Dodgers Senior Team swept two games from the Bergen Beach Trojans at Juniper Valley Park on Fathers Day.
The Dodgers won the first game of the double header in thrilling fashion rallying from a 1-0 deficit in bottom of the seventh to earn a 2-1 victory.
After the Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, the Dodgers started their comeback in the seventh with a one-out walk by centerfielder Ryan Roberts, who scored the tying run on a double by shortstop Vinny Johnson.
Johnson who was 3-3 with two stolen bases scored the winning run on a two-out single by pitcher Kevin Conlin, who also earned his first win of the season.
Conlin’s single followed an intentional walk to first baseman Matt Rizzotti and a sacrifice fly that moved Johnson to third by rightfielder Phil Kuhner.
Starter Ken Gleason (1-1) pitched six strong innings allowing one hit while striking out six.
In the second game the Dodgers jumped out to a 4-0 lead with the first six batters reaching base en route to a 6-4 win. Johnson again provided the spark with a two-run single to score Ryan Roberts and Matt Rizzotti.
Second baseman Shaun Cheng added an RBI-single to right field. The fourth run of the inning was brought in on a bases-loaded walk to centerfielder Matt Murdoch scoring catcher Chris Kaible.
Rizzotti who was 3-for-4, added a run in the third inning on a home run to centerfield. First baseman Roger Cobourne doubled to lead off the fourth inning and stole home on a first and third steal with the Johnson.
Midville starter Frank Russo (2-0) allowed four runs in six innings to earn his second win of the season. Rizzotti earned his first save of the season while striking out two in the seventh to preserve the Dodgers 6-4 victory.
The sweep moved the Dodgers record to 5-2 on the season. The Midville Dodgers Senior Team’s next home game is on July 6 at 5:45 p.m. against the Westchester Wolfpack.

Dodgers split doubleheader with the Angels. On Saturday the Midville Dodgers 15-year-old team split a doubleheader with the Long Island Angels.
In the first game the Dodgers came out surprisingly flat in a 10-0 loss. The slick fielding Dodgers had their worst offensive and defensive game of the season.
The Dodgers rebounded in the second game, winning 10-4.
After starting pitcher Robert Doria retired the side in the first inning, he struggled to find the strike zone in the second. The Angels took advantage and scored two runs as lefty Bobby Tesseyman was called out of the bullpen.
Tesseyman allowed only one hit with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings of dominance to earn the win.
Hits by Ricky Torres, Howie Wilamowski, Travis Swiatocha, Kevin Roberts, Ian and Justin Leisenheimer, helped the team to secure the 10-4 win to earn a split.
Midville Dodgers 12, Long Island Sounds 2. On Monday at St. John’s the Midville Dodgers proved to be too much for the Long Island Sounds with a big 12-2 victory.
Velazquez was unstoppable, giving up only three hits and two runs in the mercy rule shortened game.
It was a very important win for the Dodgers, since the Sounds are one of the top teams in the FABL.
Midville bats were outstanding once again. Leading the way were triples by Tommy Boggiano, Justin Leisenheimer, and Joe Licul, Kevin Roberts with a double and two singles, two singles by Ian Leisenheimer, singles by Travis Swiatocha, Bobby Tesseyman and Jared Macchirole, and Robert Doria’s base on balls all helped the team secure the win.
