Anthony Raneri, bassist for the band Bayside, spoke at a memorial concert in December about his friend and band-mate, John “Beatz” Holohan, who was killed in a car accident on Halloween. “Most of all he loved the music. [John] gave his life for that, and I know he wouldn’t have been happier any other way,” Raneri said. “This is more of a celebration of John’s life and a tribute.” Cardozo students, friends and family gathered at the Bayside high school for a musical memorial, featuring five Queens and Long Island-based rock bands, all of whom had played with Bayside. All proceeds from the concert, raffles, bake sales and wristband sales — more than $3,000 — went to the Holohan family and the band Bayside. Drummer Bobby Hollohan said he dedicates all of his performances to his brother.
