Community Star Of Queens Maurice Evans

Career Highlights: Evans, a three-year starter on the Christ the King varsity football team, won a city championship as a sophomore but his crowning achievement is his invitation to the nation’s top high school football All-Star game.
Eighty of the top recruits in the country were invited to take part in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday Jan. 7 in San Antonio, TX, to be televised live on NBC at 1 p.m.
“It’s an honor to be chosen to play in this game,” said Evans, the top-rated defensive end in New York. “It’s going to be a great experience.”
Evans, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end was recently in New York City for a special ceremony at the world famous Carnegie Deli, where he and other selected players for the game from the region – Vidal Hazelton of Staten Island and Myron Rolle of New Jersey – were presented with mile high U.S. Army All-American Bowl Sandwiches.
Background: Evans never intended on playing football at the Middle Village school (he was more interested in basketball) but his older brother Michael, now a sophomore linebacker at St. Peter’s, signed him up for the team. Evans excelled on the freshman team, and then starred as a sophomore, winning the city championship.
