Flushing’s Lippman Plaza reconstruction begins

As part of the broader $6 million redevelopment and revitalization of downtown Flushing, the extensive reconstruction of Lippman Plaza, which includes the walkway from Roosevelt Avenue to 39th Avenue (between Main Street and Union Street), has recently begun.
The plan is the result of years of hard work and effort between the Flushing Business Improvement District (BID), Councilman John Liu, the NYC Economic Development Corp. and Community Board 7. Additionally, the renovation project will install new curbs and sidewalks, trees and plants, pedestrian ramps, light fixtures, historical markers, and pedestrian signs throughout parts of downtown Flushing.
“This long-awaited renovation of Lippman Plaza will provide a much-needed modernization of an important node in Flushing’s downtown transit hub,” Councilman Liu said. “While the construction will inconvenience the many commuters in the short-term, we expect significant safety enhancements and beautification improvements that will benefit the entire community for generations to come.”
Mabel Law, Executive Director of the Flushing BID, added, “The overhaul of Lippman Plaza will benefit the entire community and allow for the public to truly enjoy it as a public walkway and seating area. We are working with [Economic Development Corporation] to better coordinate with the community to minimize disruption and ensure public safety during the three to four months of reconstruction.”
