Grace Meng gathered more than 5,700 signatures qualifying her to be on the ballot for the New York State 22nd Assembly District seat representing Flushing in the Primary election to be held on Tuesday September 12. That Assembly seat is held by her father Jimmy Meng who announced that he would not be running for reelection because of health issues.
“Personally, I feel the petition gathering is the first contact I have with voters in the district and potentially my constituents,” Grace Meng said.
Meng is one of four candidates campaigning for the assembly seat including district leaders Ellen Young and Terence Park and former Assembly and Councilmember Julia Harrison.
Now, that Meng has assured herself of a spot on the ballot come the primaries, her campaign will turn to getting out her message about increasing programs for seniors and youths, gathering more funds for schools, improving health care services and increasing police protection.
“I think from now until the end of the campaign we will be knocking on doors calling voters to get our message out and try to meet as many voters as possible,” Meng said.
