While many of the world's best tennis players prepare for the U.S. Open by practicing, others will get ready by taking part in actual tournament. The West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills will host The Forest Hills Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Classic & Jazz Festival, a women's $75,000 hard court warm-up for the U.S. Open, from August 22-26.
It will feature 16 of the top women tennis players in the world, all of whom will compete in the main draw of the U.S. Open at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing.
Admission is free through the semifinals (Friday, August 25). Admission to the finals event on Saturday, August 26 at 2 p.m. is $10. All matches will be played on center court in The West Side Tennis Club's stadium. A series of jazz performances will be held during the course of the tournament on the club's grounds.
Thousands of fans attended last year's matches that featured top international women's tennis stars from Argentina, Croatia, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, and the United States. The August event will be the second of two professional tennis tournaments being played at the historic club this year. In May, The West Side Tennis Club hosted the Forest Hills Clay Court Classic & Jazz Festival, a $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit event.
The West Side Tennis Club, in Forest Hills, is now home to more than 800 members. For more information, log on to www.foresthillstennis.com or call 718-268-2300.
