After-school program honored

Assemblyman Jimmy Meng presented a New York State Assembly Citation to the Rachel Carson Community Association, Inc., for its hard work in serving the Flushing community by providing a wide range of after-school and evening classes for students and parents in the area.
Classes offered include basketball and dance as well as computer and English as a Second Language classes for parents. The program located in I.S. 237, located at 46-21 Colden Street, Flushing and is open to the public.
The after-school/evening program is run by John Henry Byas, president; Principal Joseph Cantara; and Shirley Bryant, parent/student coordinator for I.S. 237. Assemblymember Meng helped to raise funding for the programs' operation for the past two years through local businesses. Those interested in the program can call 718-353-6464, Ext. 1012.
