Carjacking at Bayside McDonald’s

According to police at the 111th Precinct, the owner of a Range Rover was carjacked at gunpoint as he placed an order in the drive through at the McDonald’s Restaurant located between 203rd and 204th Street in Bayside at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 14.
The manager on duty at the McDonald’s on January 15, who refused to give his name and any information about the incident, denied that the carjacking had anything to do with McDonald’s.
“He was not giving an order. He might have given an order if he hadn’t have been carjacked but this has nothing to do with McDonald’s and did not take place here,” he said.
He claimed that a drive-through window which had a circular fracture was not caused during the crime but rather was the result of “someone hitting it with a fist, several days ago.”
According to published reports, the manager on duty at the time of the carjacking said that the man had come into the restaurant and said that he was about to order food when two men took his car at gunpoint.
Although The Queens Courier was not permitted inside the McDonald’s or allowed to take photos or speak to any staff members, several customers, speaking outside the restaurant said that they weren’t in the least bit surprised by the carjacking. “This is Queens,” said Annie O’Neill who hadn’t heard about the carjacking though she came to this restaurant occasionally.
A man and a woman who declined to be named but who had just purchased food at the drive through window said they were shocked. The man said he thought it was important that customers hear about incidents like this.
Another man in his thirties who was bringing his wife and two young children to the restaurant for lunch just shrugged. “This happens all the time from Springfield to Bell Boulevards. It’s so close to the expressway, the carjackers come over from Brooklyn, take the cars, jump back on the expressway and are back at the chop shops in no time. That’s where all the chop shops are,” he said.
He said he had a friend who lived on Springfield Boulevard who had no fewer than four cars taken out of his driveway in the last two years. “One he caught in the act. He threw himself on the hood but the guy just sped off.”
A spokesperson for the 111th Precinct said that police were looking to see if the carjacking fit a pattern. If so, the case maybe be sent to the Queens Robbery Squad.
According to police, the carjackers fled in the Black Range Rover with New York plates DWC 4435.
