GCP to be closed for bridge demolition

Traffic alert! Getting from here to there on the Grand Central Parkway (GCP) will be a lot harder for two coming weekends.
About a quarter mile of the GCP will be partially closed so that the temporary Steinway Street bridge can be demolished now that construction on the permanent bridge has been completed.
In addition to the roadway closures, two ramps will also be closed and no standing rules and parking for area residents will be disrupted.
While half of the highway is closed, the other side will be open to two-way traffic - with two lanes going eastbound and one lane headed westbound.
From Friday, January 26 to Monday, January 29, the eastbound side of the GCP will be closed. Then from Friday, February 2 until Monday, February 5, the westbound side of the GCP will be closed.
The closures will take effect at 11 p.m. on Fridays and end at 5 a.m. on Mondays. The rain and snow dates for the closures are from Friday, February 9 until Monday, February 12.
In addition, two ramps will be closed during both weekends - the eastbound 33rd Street ramp headed towards the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and the westbound 76th Street ramp headed towards the GCP.
To help with the closures, 33 police traffic officers have been assigned to assist with the detours, and the timing of traffic lights on Astoria and Ditmars Boulevard will be adjusted to accommodate increased traffic.
One week before the closures, parking signs will be posted, letting local residents know that Astoria Boulevard North and South will become a &#8220No Stopping” area beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 26 and Friday, February 2.
Vehicles that are parked along Astoria Boulevard while the temporary parking restrictions are in effect will be towed to side streets, and a list of these vehicles will be kept on hand at the 114th Precinct.
