The children and parents staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island got some exciting visitors when members of the New York Jets came to talk and sign autographs.
The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, located in New Hyde Park, opened in 1986, giving “families of seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment in area hospitals” a place to stay.
“It’s all about the children. Children are our future,” said Theresa Brucculeri, the vice president of the house’s Board of Directors.
The visitors from the Jets included assistant coach Jerome Henderson, former player Bobby Jackson and rookies Jacob Bender, Dominic Moran, Jared Newberry, Dustin Osborn, Leonard Peters, Jesse Pellot-Rosa, Bret Ratliff, Darrell Revis, James Ihedigbo, Chansi Stuckey, Mike DeVito, Jason Trusnik, Kyle Steffes, Alvin Banks, Andrew Wicker, Renard Stevens, Robert Turner, David Harris and Rayshaun Kizer.
“This is for the kids first and foremost,” said Trusnik. “One of the things I’ve learned is that a smile and a handshake go a long way. And here at the Ronald McDonald House, we’ll do whatever it takes to put a smile on these kids’ faces, especially during rough times.”
