Forget long lines at the post office. It has never been easier or faster to mail packages or buy stamps in Queens, now that five post offices in the area will be introducing the Automated Postal Center (APC) machines this month.
The Postal Service’s self-service APCs, kiosks that accept credit or debit cards and perform most of the functions normally provided at traditional post office service windows, are already in high demand, with 190 million transactions since they were implemented in 2004.
The Sunnyside, Woodside, Fresh Meadows, Jackson Heights and Broadway locations will add to APCs already installed in post offices all over the city.
“The APC is simple to use, but like with many new things, some people are initially reluctant to try it,” says Catherine Cassidy, Marketing Manager for the USPS Triboro District.
“After they try it, they come back again and again,” Cassidy explained. “Because of the positive response we have seen from regular customers, we want to show more people how quick, easy and convenient it really is.”
Automated Postal Centers provide easy access to postal products and services. The APC allows customers to weigh their package, pay for postage, and mail it without the need to go to the post office service window.
Customers can also purchase stamps and insurance, look up zip codes and other mailing information, send items via Express Mail, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail and Parcel Post. APC machines also offer the option of English or Spanish language transactions.
